Release history
New features, improvements and fixes in every quickssh release. The server and the client carry the same version number; update them together.
0.6.0 2026-10-19
Databases, browser extension, notes and licensing.
New
- Database records: for PostgreSQL, MySQL, MSSQL and Redis the server opens a fixed port; tools connect as if they were talking to the database directly. The VPN on the route starts by itself on the first connection.
- Split tunneling: applications chosen on the VPN page are launched so that only they go through that VPN;
quickssh runon the command line. - Full command line: commands for editing and deleting records, groups, the central server setting, the log and preferences (
edit-ssh,edit,rm,group,server,log,settings,show). - Drag-and-drop upload with separate, live progress for file count and size.
- Backup: export and import of the records to a single password-encrypted file; on a central server only for those allowed.
- Reset: for a forgotten master password, by typing a confirmation word.
- VNC: remote desktop for Linux desktops, kiosk screens and embedded devices; opens as a tab like RDP, the server connects to the target.
- Browser extension: for Chrome and Firefox. Opens a site through the VPN, SSH session or your own proxy of your choice. Connects to quickssh on the computer with a pairing key; no password reaches the browser.
- Notes: notes and file attachments, general or attached to a group or a record. On a central server a note that isn't shared is visible only to its author.
- License: 20 records and 3 users without a license. The license key is entered in the interface, on the command line or in the admin panel; when the limit is reached, existing records keep working.
Improvements
- Master password required: if the server is on your own computer, records are never stored unencrypted. Setting the password asks for two confirmations.
- On record pages the header and the action bar stay fixed; every button has an icon; deleting asks for confirmation.
- A connected session shows "Disconnect" instead of "Connect".
- VPN logs open in a separate window instead of at the bottom of the page.
- The New menu lists connection types separately; the right-click menu shows shortcuts.
- An eye icon on the lock screen shows the password; a warning after repeated wrong attempts.
- Time zone (
TZ) in the server image and a systemd unit for the admin panel. - A scroll bar on the right of the terminal;
Shift+PageUp/Shift+PageDownscroll the history page by page. - In the terminal
Shift+clickextends the selection to the clicked spot; dragging outside the area while selecting scrolls the history.
Fixes
Ctrl+Xwas not passed to programs in the terminal (you couldn't exit nano).- The "copied" notice appeared on two lines at once in the SSH tunnel and proxy sections.
- In the server image the SFTP list showed non-ASCII file names garbled.
- Text copied from the terminal included only the visible part and lost its line breaks.
0.5.0 2026-10-07
Client and server split; quickssh can now be used by a team.
New
- Client and server are separate apps: the server (
quicksshd) does the work, the client (quickssh) only shows it. The server can be on the same computer or remote. - Central server: users, permissions per record and group, permission to see passwords.
- Admin panel: records, users, permissions, audit log and settings; a password change is required at first login.
- OTP lock: the client unlocks with a one-time code and locks after the idle time set by the admin.
- Temporary access (agent): a short-lived key on the target for each connection, deleted when the connection closes.
- External access: on a central server, a VPN's SSH tunnel and proxy open on per-user ports, only to the user's current IP address.
- Remote desktop (RDP): as a tab inside the app; the server connects to the target.
- File sessions: a full-size file manager for SFTP and FTP/FTPS.
- Idle stop and wake: an unused VPN stops and starts by itself on a new connection.
- Docker image for the server: a single container with its own Docker engine inside.
Improvements
- The window also lays out properly at half screen.
- Separate system tray icons for the client and the server; only one instance runs at a time.
- The interface clears its state when the server stops.
Fixes
- The app froze on some desktops when the window was closed.
0.4.0 2026-09-07
Security and everyday comfort.
New
- Master password and encrypted records: the record file is encrypted with Argon2id and XChaCha20-Poly1305; the app locks when idle.
- System tray: the app keeps running in the background when the window is closed.
- File panel: next to the terminal, follows the terminal's directory; upload and download.
- Server status bar: CPU, RAM, disk, network and GPU.
- Activity log: every action is recorded.
Improvements
- Pasting files from the clipboard into the terminal offers to upload them.
- Viewing and copying secret fields is logged.
0.3.0 2026-08-03
